Melissa Pille graduated as MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Drug Development at the University of Ghent (2017). She is currently performing a PhD at the lab of Prof. Bart Vandekerckhove at the UGent. Her project is funded by the FWO (Research Foundation – Flanders) and is part of a close collaboration with the lab of Prof. Brian Davis at UTHealth. The goal of the project is to develop and validate a novel Crispr/Cas9 based gene-therapy for the Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. Because of the rareness of patient samples, she has set up a technique to generate her own diseased cells. In the meantime, she uses the gene-therapy to elucidate the role of the Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome protein in the development of T cells.
